Instructions:

Hand out a card to a small group of students (2-4) and have them focus on the front of the card (word side). Using any card element, give three to five minutes for groups to brainstorm as many connections as they can between the elements — themes, words, ideas, concepts, emotions, etc. At the end, have each group share their connections, both challenges and opportunities, then discuss the debrief questions below:
1. What was easy or hard about finding connections between the elements on the card?
2. What did this activity require you to do in order to find connections?
3. In returning to school, where do you see the greatest challenges when it comes to connections? To learning? To peers? To teachers? To emotions? Other?
4. Read and discuss this quote: “I define connection as the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued…” Do you agree or disagree with this quote? Why?
